How to spell Japanese on Duolingo?

When I am doing lessons on my phone with Duolingo, I can't find the letters to spell out kurai. Am I using the wrong alphabet? I got the answer wrong because they want me to do the sentence in Japanese.

Hello konnichiwa from Europe Czech rep. I am looking for Japan teacher and penfriend . I have been many times in Japan from Tokyo to Kagoschima. I am half Japanese ,my mother come from Japan Nagano pref. Nice day and domo arigato .
