All around Japan in April (2019)
8 answers
Hello everyone,
I'm a 33 year old German Business Analyst with a passion for Japan. I'll be travelling from end of March to early May this year from south to north, no real set initiary yet, and am looking for people to travel with or meet along the way. I've been 6 times to Japan already, so I'll mostly dodge the typical tourist sites and cities and look forward to explore more of rural Japan, more of its beautiful rivers, mountains and small islands.
I'm easy-going, speak German, English and some Japanese, and have made the experience that sharing the travel experiences is way more fun than just travelling alone.
So, if you're interested to meet in Japan or even travel around part of the way, then message me!

Hi, I am in the UK and am a doctor. I have booked return flights to Tokyo 20th April - 19th May. Our dates do overlap, however, I'm a first time traveller to Japan and therefore inevitably end up making an itinerary involving the usual touristy places!
Having said that, I would certainly try to avoid big cities during the Golden week. One thought in my mind is to go to Shikoku island and do pilgrimage walk for a few days (Last year I did half of the famous Spanish Camino). You being a frequent visitor to Japan, I wonder if you have any experience of it? Thanks.
Let us keep in touch - we may be able to meet up somewhere.
Cheers.

Hey man, nice to hear from you. By the time you land, I will most likely be in Northern Tohoku or Hokkaido already, as my general plan is to follow the sakura from south to north.
About Shikoku: I've been there twice, but never done the henro. When we wanted to do part of it in February 10 years ago the Takamatsu Tourist office told us we'd be batshit crazy to hike in winter, so we dropped it. I would assume that you will actually find quite the huge tourist wave on the henro temples during Golden Week, though most of them will go around in bus tours. So if you plan on hiking, there's still a chance for some quiet.

Thanks for for perspective on the Shikoku pilgrimage.
Helpful in planning my itinerary (probably omitting the plan for pilgrimage!).
Cheers.

Hey Eva,
gladly! Just wondering, am I missing the option to send direct messages here on kanpai? Made the original post without account, but created an account now to more easily stay in touch...if I figure out how ^^'
